Caring For Your Real Christmas Tree

Christmas is right around the corner! Have you gotten your tree yet? Some people wait until the last minute, and that’s okay. Caring for a real Christmas tree can take some time and effort, but it’s all worth it in the end. Smelling the fresh needles and enjoying the natural green color will light up your home. Are you unsure of how to care for one? Here are some tips for caring for your tree:

Choosing Your Tree

When choosing a Christmas tree, there are a few species you can pick from. Fraser firs are typically the most popular amongst real Christmas tree purchases. These trees hold onto their needles very well with their strong branches and have a strong smell. Balsam fir trees have that classic Christmas tree shape, strong scent, and deep color. They are known as the traditional tree. There is also the Blue fir tree. They have a green-blue tint to them. This tree is not as popular as the other two options! Whatever tree you choose, it will look great decorated.

What Do I Need For My Tree?

If you are a first-timer when it comes to getting a real tree, there may be some things you don’t know. You’ll need a tree stand to hold your tree up when you bring it home. You want to get one that can hold over a gallon of water. Christmas trees take in a lot of water, especially right after putting them in your house.

Bringing Home Your Tree

Once you bring your Christmas tree home, keep it somewhere shielded from wind and harsh weather if you aren’t bringing it inside right away. Place the tree’s trunk in water so that the sap doesn’t dry up over the trunk. When you can bring the tree indoors, place it in the stand, and tighten the sides.

Watering Your Tree

To keep your tree healthy and lasting long, make sure the tree stand is always filled with water. The sap will form and harden over the stump, making it hard for the tree to absorb water. The tree’s hydration is essential. Your tree will end up absorbing over a gallon of water in the first 24 hours. The needles will end up drying out and falling off the branches, making it challenging to decorate. You want your tree to be vibrant and healthy to celebrate the holidays!
